In the Spotlight

In the SPOTLIGHT we bring to readers’ attention new and forthcoming Mudfog publications and current activities. We shall also be including poems from Mudfog and other Tees Valley writers.

In 2009, Mudfog hopes to publish a number of new pamphlets.
One of these is likely to be a radio poem, based on the work of a group of writers which Andy Croft coordinated for BBC Tees a few months ago.

Other pamphlets will feature new work by local writers. At present we are still considering submissions and are always open to new ideas.

To get our authors read by a wider audience, we also have to sell their books - and so do they. In 2008 Mudfog sold over nine hundred books and accomplished a sales figure of over £3000. We have achieved a similar figure now for four years on the run. All our takings go directly into funding the low-cost administration of the press (postage, the web site, cost of events, some travel) and the much higher costs of publishing new material, which include author, design and printing costs. Because of our voluntary team of editors, we have low overheads, so that £3000 will pay almost all the costs of three new pamphlets or of one major book such as 'Ink on Paper' or 'Wild'.

When you buy a Mudfog book, direct from us or from an author, you are helping build funds for new publications. If you are involved in organising reading groups, general arts groups or literature study courses, many of our authors are keen to read from and talk about their work for modest expenses and an opportunity to sell their books to anyone who is interested by what they have to say. Do get in touch if you want to know more.
